It is June in Paris, three years after the start of the Revolution. The city is hungry for justice, for bread, and for vengeance and so is Ceelie. Employed in the household of the celebrated Mme de Staeel, she leaves her baby each day in the care of her friend Amandine, but when the child dies, and Ceelie’s own plot is almost perfect nothing is as it seems…
